Black Partridge Park Closed From November 1 to December 31
Additional Information
We recognize residents’ concerns regarding the November 1–December 31 closure of Black Partridge Park and understand how important access to the park is to our community.
Throughout this year, the Park District has worked with legal counsel and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) to review the deer management program and ensure it is planned and carried out as safely and responsibly as possible. This is the first time a deer management program of this kind has taken place at Black Partridge Park, and we recognize that this change raises questions and concerns for residents.
The program is intended to protect the long-term health of the park by reducing pressure on native vegetation, supporting forest regeneration, and maintaining a healthier balance between the deer population and the habitat available to wildlife.
In addition to its conservation benefits, the program provides an opportunity to donate harvested venison to local food assistance organizations, helping support individuals and families in need. The supervised youth archery hunting component also provides young participants with opportunities to learn about wildlife conservation, outdoor stewardship, hunting safety, and responsible wildlife management.
Our goal is to preserve Black Partridge Park as a healthy, safe, and sustainable natural resource for wildlife and future generations while recognizing the importance of this valued community space.
